malign?

This just reminded me of how stupid I am!  While I am wise enough to recognize the sheer nonsense of the ilk pouring out of our TV screens, it's takes programs like that episode of NCIS to jerk one back into reality.

This last episode of NCIS New Orleans showed a guy with an electronic implant in his brain (which of course was hacked by a bad guy !!! ) but the implant was an 8-pin DIP!  I should have gone back to see if I could recognize the number but didn't.  My mind, in it's shocked state, screamed NE555!  Hell, they didn't even use SMT!   Roll Eyes

I've concluded it's time to go back to drinking.  At least the things I saw then were more realistic that what I'm seeing now on TV!

K8AXW, that there was funny, and presents one alternative to media consumption: alcohol.

I suspect it is a common human trait to seek pleasure or escape in whatever way best provides easy participation. Click on a radio or a television, or down a pint of beer, whatever--I don't judge!

Thanks for the chuckle-provocation.

The writers stole the basic plot of that episode from an old Michael Crichton novel, one in which he grossly mischaracterized the underlying medical condition and what the effects of the alleged treatment would be.  If memory serves, after he was confronted on some of the inaccuracies, Crichton recanted most of the plot as not just unrealistic but near impossible.

The two shows are reaching the point of being unwatchable.  I'm willing to suspend disbelief to a point for the entertainment value, but I've just about reached my limit.

The NCIS episode shouldn't have come as a big surprise to anyone.  Hollywood has a long track record of suspending reality in favor of sensational entertainment.

I spent half of my Navy career as a diver and when the movie "Men of Honor" was released, I had high hopes that it would accurately portray Navy diving, especially since it was based on the life of an actual individual.  That was not to be the case.  There were situations depicted in the movie that would have never have occurred in real life and certain historical events were depicted wrong.

They do actually.  How many decades has it been since a hunter or even a target shooter or any gun owner was presented in anything but a negative light. As you know by watching TV all hunters are drunken, ignorant cruel fools, who if you took 3 of them and totaled up their IQ's it wouldn't be in the 90's.   So dissing amateur radio a bit and making us all look like introverted losers, is pretty dang mild.

A truthful show about amateurs or hunters?  Nah!  If the show doesn't have BS, stretched truth, misinformation and lots of sex, it will not sell.

They get into this dweeb's hamshack, presumably a suspect of some kind, and find a recording of him on a mobile device that sounded like a WWE announcer.  Just building a case for a loner "ham radio weirdo", cocooned in his little dark world, with an alter ego.

It was really stupid, and ridiculously obsessed over by the OP on his latest YouTube piece of work.

7U: I posted a partial list either on this thread or another thread on eHam.  This list is to long to repeat so just let me say, this particular episode of NCIS and its depiction of ham radio was so off the wall it was ridiculous!

BTW, if you're a ham, for cryin out loud don't answer the door without wearing your tinfoil hat!  Actually, DON'T answer the door anytime or someone might be there to take you away, they will they will they will.............
