Why didn't he try to use the ARRL VEC?

W5YI (or ARRL, the US Postal Service, or whoever) is just the messenger anyway, it matters not which VEC, if any, is the delivery agent. The US FCC's *THE* agency he's got to get to renew it, and they flagged it for review -- oops, busted!

Couldn't happen to a nicer lunatic.

I hope his ticket's "set aside" forever, and he goes ahead and transmits anyway (which he has already written he definitely intends to do, because the "FCC is acting in an illegal manner") and they not only plug the plug but slam him in the penitentiary if he does.  Enough is enough.

It's a shame a really bright guy just went off the deep end, but it happens.

This is from the ARRL web page, "FCC Amateur Radio Enforcement Letters for the Period Ending August 30, 2005"  I'm posting it here because it doesn't seem to fit anywhere else and neither Eham nor QRZ have picked up on it yet.  Looks like K1MAN renewed his license thru W5YI on July 22 and the FCC said "Wait a minute, we want to take another look at that!"  Don't shoot me, I'm only the messenger.  However, it is definitely news.  All following material is attributed 100 percent to the above-cited ARRL source:

Re: FCC File Number 0002250244

Dear Mr.Baxter:

In accordance with Rule 1.113(a), the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau is hereby setting aside its action of July 22, 2005, that granted file number 0002250244, under call sign K1MAN.

On July 22, 2005, the Commission received an application to renew call sign K1MAN filed by W5YI VEC. The application has been set aside for enforcement review.

If you have any questions regarding this matter, you may contact me by email at Tracy.Simmons@fcc.gov or by phone at (717) 338-2657.

Sincerely,

Tracy Simmons
