Has anyone found a cover that would protect a NMO base(male) connector from the elements ?  I want to leave the mount on the truck and switch the antenna from the car when I need it.

Thanks

Most of the major antenna manufacturers have thread-on covers available for the NMO bases.  Check out the mfg's online catalogs or places like HRO and AES

Larsen, Maxrad, Antennex all of the major manufacturers have threaded caps with gaskets to protect the mount in car washes, etc.

I might also suggest that you get an inexpensive 1/4 wave whip with an NMO base to put on the NMO mount when you remove your primary antenna.  This serves two purposes, it provides a "spare" or loaner antenna for emergencies, and reduces the risk of inadvertently transmitting with NO antenna.
