I have a curious problem: I use my VX-150 while flying paragliders, and I bought a great PTT/headset that fits in my helmet and allows me to easily transmit even while I'm circling in a thermal.
The problem with this PTT is that it only comes with the old style Yaesu connectors, where Mic and Monitor are on two separate plugs. According to the manufacturer, the four connector plugs used for the VX-150 are not commercially available...
Now, fortunately, there is the CT-44 microphone adapter, I can plug that into my VX-150, plug my PTT into the adapter, and all is fine.
Except that the whole combination is a little clunky and I don't really have that much space for cabling and such in my flight suit. So after a while, due to some mechanical stress, I'm sure, the PTT's microphone cable broke right behind the connector. So since I had to do some soldering anyways, I decided to get rid of the adapter:
I cut the adapter's cable off, unsoldered the two connector cables from the PTT and soldered the adapter to it, following the color code as it had been before. Should be dead easy, shouldn't it? Except that now the thing doesn't really work any more: Sound on the loudspeaker is heavily distorted, and when I push the PTT (with squelch open), the radio's noise starts turning on and off pretty rappidly, and the radio's display seems to be flashing. The tx indicator never really shows up as a solid bar, just slightly grey...
So the question is (finally), is there anything inside the FT-44 I don't know about, a filter or something? Or why else would what I did (basically getting rid of the two plugs and the corresponding connectors on the adapter, and soldering the 4 connector plugs directly to the PTT) have the described effect?
