I am debating on the YAESU FT7800R or the ICOM IC208H.

I need a 2meter/440 base with detachable face....

Here is my comments. Some radios are not fully remotable. That is to say, the face plate is remotable, but not the microphone cabling. This fact can and does cause problems with RFI.

Remoting also presents some additional power considerations. I have a lot of information on my web site about wiring, fusing, etc. Although pointed to the HF mobile crowd, it is applicable to VHF/UHF as well.

Regardless of any problems of remoting the faceplate I have no alternative.  I drive a Hyundai Tiburon and can barely find enough room for the faceplate, let alone a radio.

The 7800 is remotable with a standard 6-conductor RJ28 straight-through cable.  The Icom 208 includes the remote cable, but it's a propritary connector, so you're stuck with the length they give you (short or long).

I'm not sure about the Icom, but the FT-7800R connects the mic to the faceplate, rather than to the base unit.

I'm very happy with my 7800.
