Can anybody tell me if the V8000 has an SWR meter built into it (I don't think it does from what I've read about it) ?

nope. but it has something built in to reduce the power if nothing is connected.  buth then again you should never need have to worry about that.  the v8000 by the way is a solid rig i love it

An S meter on an FM radio is a worthless accessory due to the capture effect if nothing else.
