I recently bought a newer used car and want to replace the 10 year old antennas I had been using for 2 meters and 440 Mhz.

Whenever I see video of the Presidential limousine, with several antennas on the rear, I wonder what brand they are. Does anyone know? I would think they would select the best available. I'm curious to know the manufacturer to see if they also make antennas for ham use.

For several years, they were Motorola's, and before that, a GE or two. Looking at the latest press release pictures, there isn't ANY shown. However, the ones from Clinton's era show what appears to be Larsen's and from their appearance I'd say two of them are cellphone antennas, and one a UHF. The fourth one is anyone's guess, but it is definitely a SHF satellite antenna.

Probably the best value in ham antennas are those from Larsen. Larsen is one of the largest makers of mobile antennas and they are among the most rugged, not to mention the best performers.

The best 2m/70cm antenna from Larsen is the NMO270 series. The plain 270 has a closed coil and the 270B has an open coil. Either one will out last your vehicle.

Get antennas with the NMO mount and you won't be disappointed.

I changed from Antenna Specialist Products
for my mobile antennas to Larsen
many moons ago and never looked back.

Their 3/4 inch hole mount is much
sturdier that the ASP 3/8 inch
finger thingie mount.

When I first got into HAM radio the guy who would later become one of my best friends told me for mobile applications there is none better than Larsen. He was right, the original antenna I started out with 13 years ago is still working great. It has taken serious abuse (almays mounted to the roof of an off road vehicle for hunting and camping) tree limbs, low overhangs you name it and it has held up great!! Larsen
is the only way to go!
