Hello, i'm looking into getting a FT-7800, i see that the separation kit for the radio is anywhere from $50 to $70. i don't really need the mounting bracket, and the cable looks like it has standard modular connectors on the ends. Does anyone know if the cable is easily made?

Thanks!

Surfing the reviews here, N1MCP reports that a "phone cord wired straight through" from a computer store for about $6 works fine w/ a Yaesu FT-8800, and K9DY suggests purchasing a seperation cable from W1JIM on ebay for about $12 for the FT-7800, search for "YAESU SEPARATION CABLE FT-7800R". It appears that it is just a standard straight thru network patch cable (8 conductor & "RJ-45" modular jacks) or phone cable 4 (or 6) conductor & "RJ-11" 6 conductor jacks, but I'm not certain.

LKR sums it up about right. That's what I used for my mobile without any problems. Heck, use some double stick velcro and put the face on the dash, or below/above the sun visor.
