Hello.

I am trying to get back to Ham'ing after almost a decade ... I used to live in LA, CA and now in Irvine, CA ...  I  would like to make some radio friends down here and i don't know where to start.

Are there any Amateur R stores in the OC Area?  I'm also expecting to purchase a packet-capable mobile and would like to see what I can do with it in the area ... Is there packet activity inj So Cal?

HRO is in Anaheim.

You might take a look at what they have on display (which is quite a lot).

Lots of radio clubs in OC.

Can you install antennas at your home in Irvine?  That's not a ham-friendly community, since the Irvine Ranch Corporation set a lot of very unfriendly by-laws many years ago, but it probably varies by neighborhood...

FM-repeater (mobile use) activity is *way* "down" from what it was ten years ago.  Not to say amateur radio activity is down -- it's not.  Just stuff changes, and repeaters aren't as popular as they used to be, probably due to cheap cell phones.
