Has anyone else had difficulty getting Heil mics with the HC-5 cartridge to work on 2m FM rigs?

I picked up a Heil HM-10 mic and signal reports from my Kenwood TM-271 FM 2m rig were "Poor audio level". Switch back to the handi mic and the rig performs A1.  The retailer and Heil both say, "there's nothing wrong with the mic" - tho neither actually did on-air tests with the mic.

Any help, experiences, opinions would be a great help. Cheers!

There is nothing wrong with the mike. Heil mikes are designed for HF rigs with mike gain controls.

To make that mike work with your 2M rig, you are going to need someone with a station monitor to adjust the rig to use the Heil.

Personally, use the mike the rig was designed for.
