hi,

I've purchased NOS JAN 6146W and 12BY7a driver tubes
no problems.  They should have put the tubes in
a larger box with packing to protect them better.

I had bad dealings with them years ago and never went back.

Bob is WD0FDE and evidently his license has expired (per FCC ULS data base, it ran out 12/03/08 and has not been renewed).

I ordered some IF filters from SSNE and they were shipped promptly and seem to be fine condition although I have not installed them yet. No problem with the order.  Too bad they do not come to Dayton any more.  I used to look at their stuff for sale there, always. I have to wonder if some dealers get grumpy dealing with those wacky ham types all the time.

Interesting that Bob has so much free time on his hands to test each
transformer before selling them.

Considering all the stuff in his inventory I find this hard to believe.

Did the item on the website indicate it was tested?  I bet not.

I have to put in my two cents worth also.  I have placed 6 or 7 orders with Bob at SS of N, mostly large quantities of small DC motors.  About 500 motors later, I'm still enjoying excellent service with no trouble whatsoever.  My guess is that he's in the same situation as myself:  Too much work and can't afford to hire enough help.

A guy with a one or two man shop serving the entire country can get pretty darned crabby; I'm living proof of that.  People call for STUPID reasons, they think they're your only customer and they don't bother to read anything on the website before calling.   I have to hand it to Bob for even making his phone number available, because it seems that only the most stupid (or the most crabby) people are the ones that can't compose a full sentence in E-mail, and have to call instead.  Most folks with some intelligence would know that time on the phone is time wasted, if the same purpose can be served in an E-mail that I can read when I'm able to get away from the bench.

I am surprised to hear about problems with this company. Over the years I have purchased Collins parts from them and have always had great service. Just a few months ago I purchased several parts for my KWM-380 and they arrived in just a few days, Packed well and exactly what I ordered.

I purchased a replacement 5"x7" speaker for my Collins 312B-3 speaker.  Except for no confirmation of order, an e-mailed invoice, or confirmation of shipment, the speaker shipped three days after I placed the order and arrived two days later via UPS Ground.  I would have appreciated more communications from them after placing the order, as I contacted their Customer Service Department to check on the status of the order on the day it arrived!  How coincidental...

Overall, I was pleased with the product, but as stated above, would have preferred more communications from them on the order status.

I've found a few, odd items that I needed on SSN's website that I couldn't find anywhere else.
I've had good luck dealing with them.

Interesting....I ordered the exact same speaker (for my Drake MS-4) just a couple days ago.  I guess I won't worry about checking my email!

I have ordered from them five or six times and no problems at all.  Some were high dollar (directional coupler) test equipment.  I have not had any problems and will continue to use them.

Not only did I receive my item (very nice) today - just in a couple of business days - around the holidays no less, but their actual shipping costs were somewhat higher than I paid.    I couldn't ask for a better transaction - faster than the big guys.   Oh, and the packaging was excellent.

Just one experience, but I will definitely be ordering from Surplus Sales again!

I've had the exact same experience with getting parts for my Collins gear, so I'm sad to read the other experiences posted here.  The only thing I can complain about is that he prices his Collins items very high, but that's his call and the market will determine if he can keep doing it.

Sorry about the other guys.....hope you can get your matters resolved.

I've ordered a number of items from Surplus Sales over the past several years - absolutely zero problems, and all the stuff arrived quickly.
