Does anyone know of good programming software for the Yaesu FT-897?

Well, that depends on what you consider "good" I've been using the latest version of FT Basic which you can get here:
http://www.g4hfq.co.uk/ftbasic.html

It's not freeware, but it's not expensive. It has the ability to read and write to all of the FT-897's memories and can control the rig as well. If you have the CT-62 CAT cable from Yaesu and this program, you're all set.

Not flashy, but very solid with a good feature base.

Commander, which is free, will control the FT-897 and most other Yaesu HF transceivers. Its available via www.qsl.net/dxlab .

There's a warning on the Commander Yahoo Group which indicates that Commander can misprogram the alignment on the FT-897.  The author of Commander does not support the 897.  Do a text search on "897" of the messages in that Yahoo group and you'll see.

It's too bad that it doesn't.
