I just saw a keyer on e-bay sell for over $3300. It was called "The Cope"
What makes this key so valuable?

It's not a keyer; it's a key.

It's rare, and that's what collectors pay big bucks for. Its value for sending code isn't any more than for any other good semi-automatic key, but its value as a collector's item is whatever the market will bear.

Try this link
http://completed.shop.ebay.com/i.html?MA2ShowItems&_trksid=p3286.c0.m283&_rdc=1&_fln=1&_nkw=cope+key&LH_Complete=1&guest=1

or go to E-bay type in Cope key and search completed listings

I remember seeing a Vibroplex WireChief (ie Vertical) Bug go for
$10,000 on eBay a few years ago. The reason is that they are very rare.
They were such a terrible bug that most original  owners gave up and threw them in the garbage and bought something else. That plus the fact that Vibroplex didn't end up making them for very long, makes them a very rare find, thus the ridiculous price tag.

Okay, I'm a collector, but I'm not that big a collector.  If it doesn't at least look "nice" my XYL will not approve.  Even if it costs under $100.
