I am a high school teacher and licensed operator, and I want to start an Amateur Radio club at my school.  I hope to get students interested in amateur radio, and licensed by the end of the year.  I intend to use some of my extra gear, but I still need a few things.  Our school, like most in the country, does not have the necessary funding, so I intend to ask companies or local clubs for donations of used equipment.   I know ARRL has a program for this, but I would rather not go that way.  I prefer the flexibility to create the curriculum I intend to use. Any ideas of where I might turn, and also where I might find a good example of a donation letter I might use?  Thanks.....

Why don't you get the ARRL package and then use/modify the parts you like and discard what you don't like. They are probably the best resource you'll find.
