I wasn't sure where to post this, so I hope I got it right.
I have just bought a new Icom IC-R5 & are finding the operating instructions hard to follow.
I am familiar with scanning receivers in that I have had several uniden models & have had no problems setting them up.
I have several different groups of frequencies that I want to install into it & then be able to scan them either in their groups or as a whole. This is how I have set up the Unidens. I have bought this unit as it goes a whole lot further.
I have been searching the net for info but when I search programing most of the info refers to using a data cable from a PC.
Is this the way I need to go. I have checked out data cables but they are expensive.

Just an update on this.
I have worked out how to save the known frequencies but cant work out how to scan them.
Also I am not sure whether I have them saved in the best place.
I have ordered a data cable & software, so hopefully the help file on that may be a little easier for me to follow.
