Hi, I just purchased a AEA PK232 MBX. I am looking for a terminal program that will work in a Windows 7 or Vista machine. I will be using a USB to RS232 converter (dongle). Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am only interested in HF operating modes.

I would contact Creative Services Software.
http://www.cssincorp.com/

They write software for Timewave and other
products. I am sure they have a product and/or drivers
for Windows 7.

I am sure there are oher terminal programs,
whether they will work with Windows 7, I dunno.

Hehe. I remember using a DOS version of Pakratt on a
Commodore 64 with an 80's vintage PK-232....it was a blast.

Thanks for the response.
I found a Win 95 machine out in the garage, looking like I need to go thru the old software (3.5" diskettes) and see if I can dig up something to run with. I wonder how much RFI I will get from that old desktop machine...? God I hate to go there.

WinWarbler will control your PK232 in parallel with its MMTTY engine, giving you the ability to decode the same RTTY signal twice (diversity decoding) or simultaneously decode a DX station and its pileup (if the DX and pileup lie within your receiver's bandpass). WinWarbler is free, and available via www.dxlabsuite.com.

I use PuttyTEL for my PK-232MBX. I don't use Windows 7 but have heard that it works fine.
It's also free but is just a terminal program - you have to use terminal mode on the 232.

For HF packet on "Network 105" which is what I do most of the time it is perfect (also works in full screen or 2nd monitor mode) but if you need macros for RTTY etc it might be a bit cumbersome.

Get PuttyTEL from:
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html

If you're interested in trying HF Packet we have a yahoo group you are welcome to join:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/network105/

It's expensive at $100, but CSS's "ROC Digital Desktop"
(formerly known as PacTerm or PKTerm)
is an extremely feature rich software
suite for TNC and supports sound cards.
Their web page says drivers available for Windows 7.
http://www.cssincorp.com/ROC_Digital_Desktop.html

Mode support for multiple data streams and transmit/receive/monitor
CW, Baudot / RTTY, PACTOR, PSK31, MT-63, SOUNDCARD RTTY,SSTV
ASCII, NAVTEX, FEC, AMTOR,  ARQ, SIAM and  and GTOR/GMON (with Kantronics TNCs), .
SIAM = Unknown Signal Identification,

Also includes support for dual TNCs, a logging program,
built in spectrum analyzer and signal waterfall, Call Book integration,
sound card support, using the TNC's keying circuit or the TNC's
serial port for keying the radio with RTS or DTR, (saving a serial port
for other functions). One-click access to any stream, mode, radio,
TNC, soundcard and rotor.
Multiple monitor windows, including separate windows for network
traffic and for non-packet HF modes, from CW through NavTex.
Audible DX spot announcements and lots more.

Don,

Im the only one doing TNC software anymore and mine is the only one that works with Windows 7 32/64.  I also own the rights to Pakratt (which is on the 25th anniversary CD) and Im disappointed you took a pirated copy, since I do have it available again. (And to Mel, who gave it to you Sad  ). It is not pubic domain or freeware.

Im not a big company, just 3 of us, me myself and I. Smiley

Let me know what I can do for you.  You can get the cross upgrade for $79.95 for Digital Desktop. It's at http://www.cssincorp.com/cgi-bin/store/commerce.cgi?pid=36. As long as you have 12/93 firmware, you're good to go.  If you need upgrade firmware and hardware (soundcard interface, DSP, USB, etc), check with Timewave at http://www.timewave.com

Best

Not true! WinWarbler supports the PK232, and runs on 32-bit and 64-bit flavors of XP, Vista, and Windows 7. .

Gary's XPWIN should still be available for download free from his webpage. I think I paid $75 for it when he was still supporting it. I never had a problem with the program running the PK-232 or the KAM thru WIN 98, ME,& XP. Airmail/Sailmail will also support the PK-232 and most likely will work with WIN7 as Jim keeps it current.

No DOS or 16 bit program will run under the 64 bit version of Windows 7, only 32 and 64 bit programs will run.
