Which would be the better match for my Yaesu FT-897D. The Yaesu MD-1C8 or the currently produced MD-100A8X?  Also, can the MD-1C8 be wired with the 8 pin modular (RJ-45) plug?
  Thank you!

Hello Fellow Yaesu user
The MD-1C8 Mike is the older version of the Current MD-100A8X Desk Mike. Definitely the MD-100A8X is the Best mike for the FT-897 and the mike to Radio Cord is reversible the mike has 8 Pin and RJ-45 jacks so you can reverse the cable for radios with RJ-45 Jack like the FT-897, 857 817 Series and FT-100(D) or the newer 8 pin Radios like the FT-1kKMP series to the FT-950 and 2K. The MD-1C8 is better suited for those older now Classic Yaesu Radios like the FT 747, 757 and 767-GX series FT-1000D FT-990. The MD-100 has active OP Amps in the Filtering Circuit that needs 5 volts to work and the 3 Scanning switches Ground the logic for scanning. The MD-1 Mike has passive Components in the Filter and the Scanning buttons are not grounded but floating Up & Down have a Common to 1 pin and Fast is Floating Some older radios like my FT-767GX have 5 volts high logic to do Scanning Functions instead of grounding the logic.  To make the MD-1 work with the 897 you will need to Modify the Scanning Buttons have them wired like the MD-100 and find the mike Cord for the later mike I think the hard part would be getting the RJ-45 correctly configured on the older mike cable. I have a MD-1 on my FT-767GX and it works great. I also use it sometimes on my venerable old FT-757GX. I would myself go with the MD-100 if I had the newer Yaesus in my Shack.
