I am making new furniture and storage for my shack, and I was wondering if anyone has suggestions as to what to include, or what not to do...
I go along with leaving space behind the equipment so you can get to the connectors etc.
You'll need someplace to put the radio equipment and somewhere for a computer. If you use a laptop maybe you can fit everything onto one table. Otherwise you may need two tables or desks. I have three in a "U" configuration. One table for radio gear, one desk for computer, and one to hold other stuff (shack doubles as a home office).
Do you need a separate work-bench for projects, etc? Or can you get by with just a folding table when needed?
If you have the space, and you have big radios, an extra-wide table for the radio gear can be handy. i.e. something like 36 inches instead of the standard 30 or 24 inch widths.
Storage cabinets. Figure out how much shelf space you need now, and triple it. Within a few years you'll fill it up with stuff.
Don't forget a table or cart for a coffee-maker, and someplace to put a refrigerator.
And maybe a lock on the door.
