Club callsign at other stations?

I have contacted ARRL section manager and ARCA mgr with a question, which was not directly answered. My club wants to do a special event station. We are a very rural area and many of the ops in the county are elderly and some disabled (county is 200 miles from top to bottom). Many would like to participate, but it is prohibitive if they have to all go to one location. Question is, (1) can we schedule ops to work a sked from their own QTH using club call-sign during the special events date, and (2) if so, would club call-sign custodian have to be present at those remote QTHs when the club call-sign is being used?

I think there are a couple of issues to consider:

1) Can a club station operate from a portable location? The answer is yes.

2) Does the trustee need to be present at the portable location? No, he can designate a control operator just as he would if someone were operating from the normal club location and he was not present. The control operator must operate within his own license requirements. In other words a Tech can't operate in the General bands just because the Trustee is a General.

It would be a good idea for the trustee to keep a record of what control operators were designated at the different times and from what location they were operating.

3) If the designated control operator does something illegal, who is responsible? The control operator and the trustee jointly.

4) Are there any requirements of the contest or whatever you are operating that would preclude operation from multiple locations?

What difference would the number of stations using the call on the air at any one time make?  The Canton Amateur Radio Club (Canton Oh) does a special event station for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Club members use their home stations and use the club call W8AL. In past years we've had as many as 4 stations all on the air at the same time.  Each station was on a different band and each contact was logged to make QSLing easier.
