When grading an applicants cw test, do you count spaces between words?  In other words, is "see spot run" counted as 10 or 12 characters in a row?  And, as I understand it punctuation and pro-signs count as two characters. I've been practicing copying QSO's with G4FON's software.  My best so far is 56 characters in a row (or 67 if you count spaces).  Thanks for your answers.

A space is not a character; it is simply a pause between two characters.

It is not counted.

Spaces are not counted so don't worry about spacing.

The last time I took my element one, my VE told me that I only needed to copy 25 characters to pass.  Or one solid minute of copy with no mistakes.
