I'm looking for a good quality headset to go with my 520, but all of the ones that are rated well seem to use electret elements. Seeing as the kenwood doesn't supply phantom power that isn't really an option. I know I could build a battery box, but I'd rather go with a good quality dynamic. Anyone have any suggestions?

The Heil headsets use dynamic mics, but in my opinion they are overpriced.  Other than that everything today is electret.

Thanks for the reccomendations. The issue with those headsets is that they provide full range sound. A good communications headset has a narrow frequency response to filter out anything outside of the voice range. With a full range earphone a lot of extra noise comes through. While they may be great for gaming, they aren't so good for hamming.
I tried google, and I only found headsets with electret mics, which need bias power. I guess I need to look into the overpriced Heils...

I have owned two Heil desk mics for the past two years. I do not consider them over priced for the quality of the product.

I have also owned a Heil headset in the past and would not hesitate to purchase another one if I want to operate that way.

Currently I use a Heil GM-5 with my FT-950. Headphones in use are Kenwood. I recently mounted the GM-5 on a Heil boom/shock mount, so having a Heil headset with a mic attached is not really a priority.

Like any other product on the market, you get what you pay for.
