Came home from work, turned on the radio and heard
several stations still on. Changed out of my dirty scrubs,
sat down, worked a ZL1, and the band shut down like
a slamming door! (For me and my vertical, anyway) Cheesy

I'm no contestor, and when the big ones are on I usually go hide out on the WARC bands.  BUT - I picked up a couple of DX band-fills on 10M yesterday and I'll probably go troll for a few more later this morning.  At least they're good for that.

Isn't it absolutely AMAZING how 10 meters magically opens on contest weekends!

All that means is that 10 meters is open a lot more than we think.  We don't hear anything because everybody is listening and nobody is transmitting.

You have a very good point.  Most of the time when I call CQ on 28.400 Mhz for about 5 minutes, even when the band seems quiet, I will get replies!
