Amateur high altitude balloon launched from California has crossed the US, the Atlantic, Spain, and is now heading into the Mediterranean Sea, and still going strong.

Track it here: http://aprs.fi/?_s=os&call=a%2FK6RPT-11

That is pretty amazing!
First, how far you have to zoom out to see the track.
Second to look at different datapoints to see the altitude and speed: 104K feet over Colorado, for example.
At 09:30z this morning, it went from 116K feet to 14K so it looks like it's run out of steam (or He, to be more precise). But, that's still quite a trip!

The K6RPT gang should get megakudos! They did a fantastic job with that flight. For those who do not know it launched 4pm PST Sunday and went down last night off the coast of Algeria/Tunisia. Fantastic! I know many folks have been motivated to give high altitude ham radio ballooning a go now.

A very special thanks to our friends across the pond who re-tasked IGates and digi's so the beacon could be tracked. While a worldwide 2m APRS frequency may not be terribly likely, the fact they would do this is a huge testament to the goodwill we spread through the hobby.
