Do most RTTY operators these days use the old teletype equipment, modern printers with a RTTY interface, or just display on a computer screen?
There are still a few die-hards out there that use mechanical teletype machines, but for all intents and purposes, it is all being done on a computer now-a-days. There are basically 2 ways to do RTTY:
1) Use a multi-mode controller. This can either be an outboard unit (like one of the Kantronics units) or a card installed in the computer (like one of the HAL units).
2) Use a sound card and software like MMTTY. The program is free and according to most, will outcopy many outboard controllers. You will need to use some sort of interface between the computer and radio. Simple schematics come with MMTTY or you can buy one of the Rig Blaster type interface units.
