I have a Netbook computer running Ubuntu Linux.  I want to use this to set up a portable/mobile APRS station. Anyone who can walk me through what I all need to make this work would be appreciated.

Xastir is the about the only program in active development for Linux. If you want to just check it out, there's a binary build in the Ubuntu software center (Synaptic), but to really use it you'll need to build from source. The biggest problem seems to be getting maps to work properly.
