I installed fldigi but when I click on the shortcut to open it I get a popup saying "fast light digital has stopped working windows will check for a solution" then nothing happens. So I uninstalled, tried again to install and same thing. I am running Vista, whats interesting is I had fldigi on several months ago and it worked OK. Anyone have any suggestions / solutions? Thanks

Try this, uninstall and reboot and then defrag hard drive then reinstall. Sometimes a corrupt file is rewritten and used again after a install. (deleting does not actually remove file) Defraging nukes deleted files. Also when you reinstall without a reboot old registry settings are still in memory but when you reboot you have a clean registry in memory. What is hardware (CPU speed and memory) here.

John,

Hi de Steve KB6HOH. Before you doing any uninstalling or Defragging!
1st, questions like this would be bettered answered on the Yahoo User Group win-fldigi at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/win-fldig
Dave W1HKJ is very prompt in responding to these type questions.
Next you want to get into your User Profile. Now I use Windows 7 which I believe is like Vista.
Under your User Profile find the directory called fldigi.files.
Next locate and Rename the following files:
fldigi_def.xml to old_fldigi_def.xml
and
fldigi.prefs to old_fldigi.prefs
Now restart FLdigi and see if it responds. If it does then we are over the 1st hurdle.
If it does respond then it's going to look like a fresh install but that's OK!
Did you have any Macros that you made up yourself or were you using the Defaults.
Also were you also logging your QSO's
Either way you can get back to me at:  kb6hoh(AT)comcast(DOT)net
