I'm working on one of these and trying to restring the main tuning dial.  The original cord is there as is the spring.  The diagram from the manual is straight forward, but I've had no luck in getting this to work.

With the opening in the pulley down, as shown in the diagram, my plates are closed--a note on the diagram says the plates should be fully unmeshed.  I'm wondering if someone has messed with the position of the pulley on the shaft, although it's pressed on and doesn't appear to move.  If I string the cord as shown, the capacitor will rotate only half way.

Could someone check the position of their plates in relation to the opening in the pulley?  Other ideas?

Thanks
John

Every radio manufacturer has running revisions that may not be reflected in the manual you have or you might be missing an addendum sheet.

In the case of a dial cord, if it doesn't work over the full arc with the slot down try it with the slot up. Or horizontal. Figure which way you need more swing then index in that direction before you lace it up. Nothing will smoke and it will cost you nothing more than your time. Safe bet it worked before, all you need to figure out is how..........

John,

Try to locate an owner of another unit, and have him take pics. As AC5UP said, the diagram may have been an older version. I had in instance of an AA5 radio whose stringing was not as the diagram showed.

There is a complete manual on BAMA with a dial stringing diagram.  It says that the
capacitor is fully meshed with the opening at the bottom.  The manual is a djvu version
so you have to download free software to use it.  The nice thing is that the djvu is often
clearer than other software copies and downloads have smaller downloads that other software.
