Hi all...

Today, a friend and I made the long awaited trip to HRO.  The goal was to purchase an LDG tuner for my FT817 (check!) and get some sort of antenna for use here at the QTH (um, check?)....

It appears that I substantially misjudged the size of our home. I bought a RadioWavez G5RV Jr.  At 51ft, I thought that I'd be able to run the antenna across the diagonal of our attic.  That *may* still be possible, but it's looking more like we'll have to V the antenna to get it to fit.

So, in y'all's opinion, would I be better served to:
a) Keep the antenna horizontally level, but V the ends in slightly.
b) V the antenna 'vertically' with the center point mounted high in the peak of the roof and sloping down towards either end

What do you think?   Thanks in advance!

Generally the best approach is to put the center as high as you can, run the center section
as straight as you can, then bend the ends around as need to fit the space available.  Often
a Z shape turns out to be one of the better options.

I agree, make it an inverted vee just under the roofing, keeping it all as high as you can get it.

Keep the ends of the antenna away from other materials as much as possible.

I have a 80/40/20/10M trapped dipole folded into "Z" shape in the attic.  It works and on 20M SSB has given me contacts across North and South America, Europe, and Russia.  On 80M it gets me into regional nets and into a t.v. in one of the bedrooms!

What they said!  If possible, keep as much wire as you can as a flat top and then bend the ends, keeping the wire ends away from other wiring or large metal objects.  If the G5RV feed proves uncooperative with the LDG tuner at the rig, try using the tuner (with a 1:1 balun) at the point the balanced line transitions to coax, in the attic even.  Good luck!
