Not that great today, the A index is 22.

Wow, an opportunity to predict the future!  The big A and K indices were due to the solar filament eruption/flare Saturday that was earth directed, but otherwise sunspots and flux have been in a recent mini "sag".  My own DXing experiences over the past 2 weeks showed me that 12M and 15M bands to be often good, but 10M not a good as when flux was peaking in the Fall, and around the time of the CQ WW.  I predict 15M will be better than 10M but that an effort on 10M will be necessary to have a great score.

We are at 40 for the SN - pretty terrible. But the progression follows what has been predicted - and now that we are far enough past the bottom - the predictions are probably right on.

As with all past cycles - the spikes up and down - above and below the predicted "smoothed" curve will happen.

I expect an uptick again very soon - but I would be surprised it will happen for this weekend - judging by what you can see as far as spots go on the far side of the SOHO images. There will probably be enough good DX on to make it a fun contest anyway.

But I do expect conditions to get really good again - right in time for the "Vernal Equinox" - I just wish there was something I need being activated in that time frame - hi hi.

Last Oct - Nov - 12 and 10 were amazing - as good as anything I've experienced in Cycle 23 or 24. I bet another one will happen by mid March.

Based on contests in the previous weeks... 15M will be very very reliably excellent. 10M useful when both ends in daylight, but not wide open. And several times in the past month 20M has shown a lot of very good mixed-length openings over extended hours including darkness.

Much better today than yesterday with its A 22.

Today shows:    SFI = 103   A = 4   K = 1
Better !

Now if it just continues to improve for the next couple days we will
have a hot contest !

Plans are developing at our house for the contest this weekend.  My wife plans to go shopping while I work a bunch of new ones.
I will end up broke but happy.  :-)

I don't think the K and A indecies really matter that much during a contest. There will be plenty of people on regardless.

They are actually better than I had expected. ST2AR on 15M from NCAL is good DX!

Friday morning, I got CT9/DL5AXX on 12 meters, & E77DX on 15 meters.

No problems with Japan today, Caribbean is coming in very good on 10 meters. Not spectacular, but certainly not dead.

10 blew chunks Saturday. Just a handful of Qs and less than 50 mults, with very little Europe workable from NJ. 15 was the daytime moneyband and 40/80 were rockin' Friday Night. 160 was a flop, though. Caribbean was OK but nothing much trans-Atlantic. Close to 100 entities on 15m (95) and reasonably-close on 20 and 40. Plenty of Q's but the mults weren't as plentiful as last year.

Same here.  I haven't found any new countries in the contest so far, but I filled a few new band/country slots, and I've been having a bunch of fun.  And it's nice to hear the bands so FULL, isn't it?   :-)

PS, a couple of hours later:  I called a SA station a little while ago on 10m.  He ignored me the first couple of calls, then answered my next call with "W K W K W K."   :-)  I guess on SOME level, I'm actually DX.  ;-)

Sez who? A was 4, K is 2 a couple of hours after your post, as it is now the following (Sunday) morning. Flux is 104 and SSN is 63. Not great, not awful. 10 showing brief signs of life N/S but bupkis of note to EU from NA. Still early, though.

I was able to get 10 new band slots yesterday, which surprised me since I was only on a couple hours total (I'm not a contester, but love picking up new band slots this way).

ST2AR on 15M and E7DX on 80M were the really good DX, and we had this really excellent opening on both 10 and 15M late in the day where I closed out all band slots Finland with OH8X - like they were locals.

H40FN was on 10M - the last Temotu slot that I need - hopefully he will be back on again today on 10M.
