Hi,
  Looking to buy a good quality straight key, worked a paddle for a while and wood prefer a straight key.
Could anyone recommend a good key please....

Hi Don,

I like the straight key from Kent in the UK.  It has a solid feel and, most importantly, the return spring is positioned so that it pulls the lever down towards the bearing.  Too many keys have the spring pushing up the lever at the front, so if there is ANY play in the bearing you feel this in operation as the pivot point is made to rise with each element.  If the lever is pulled down this cannot happen. The sealed bearings of the kent mean that there is no play anyway, but the fact that the lever arm is always pulled down also helps.

I like the straight key from Kent also. It is big and strong.

The best straight key I have is the German Junker key.
Smooth, easily adjusted, Craftmanship,solid construction. If there is a better straight key than this one I will like to know...because I think this is the very best.
I have other excellent keys, such as Kent, Begalli, Brown Brothers and others.
For paddles look for a Brown Brothers or a Kent.
