Does anyone remember CW speed contests at hamfests? Groups of operators would be tested at at progressively faster and faster CW speeds to see who was the the hottest operator. The winner got a trophy for that year. I've never seen one of these contests in person, but I remember reading about them when I was a Novice in the early '70s.  I wonder if we should bring them back to hamfests as a way to help promote CW.

K8CX has (had) a "Callsign Blast" at the Warren, OH, hamfest.  It was 100 callsigns sent between 13 and 60 wpm.  I was last there in 2001 or 2002, I think.

Every year at the W9DXCC convention held near Chicago, they have a CW Operator contest where CW ops sit around a table, wearing headphones, and listen to a pre-recorded CW QSO/contest run. The person who copies the most callsigns is the winner and gets a nice prize.
