AU's ABC Radio National "Science Show" had an excellent speaker,
whose words should reach as many young people as possible - as
well as those in a position to allocate funding to Research projects.
It's about a boy's early interest in Electronics (at home & school),
as well as the importance of Research, that's -not- limited to be
focused only on results that can be immediately commercialized.
Research that's -not- restrained like that can create whole -new-
industries (such as those that followed early experiments involv-
ing the electron).
Catch the MP3 podcast of that program segment here, ie,
before it disappears (ABC RN tends to dump such podcasts
after about a month, in my experience):

in Amateur Radio Club presentations; it's that -inspiring- IMO.
(The curious may also want to look into Canada's Perimeter Institute.)
PS We're always looking for talks like this one, in case you have
any suggestions.
