I am contemplating a similar setup for my not-yet-purchased truck camper. My plan is to mount a screwdriver antenna near the ladder at the rear and use an electric lift-and-lay to raise and lower it. It will be grounded to the truck frame via a wire. Between adjusting the screwdriver loading coil and the internal tuner in the radio (10:1 VSWR tuning range) I should be able to get it to work well.
