I am a SKCC member (not yet a FISTS) and had a few questions.

1.  Since getting my keyer and building a paddle, some ops will give me their SKCC number.  Since I have a SKCC number, is it "ok" to give it even though I am using a paddle/keyer?

2.  After making a QSO and getting a QSL card, I see the SKCC number printed on the card.  Is it ok to count that number towards award credit or does the number have to be exchanged over the air.

The Following is right off of the SKCC Website:

Here's how it works:

SKCC is open to any interested licensed radio amateur
Membership is free
SKCC numbers are issued for life. Once you get it, it's yours.
Exchange SKCC numbers using a Straight Key, Bug or Side Swiper.

So that means no keyers allowed..I do not know about FISTS as I am not a member.
Hope that helps.

Much like SKCC, FISTS recognizes an exchange of numbers on the air. If I receive a card with a FISTS, CC or SKCC number printed on it, but didn't exchange those numbers for mine on the air, I won't (nor should I) put them in my FISTS or SKCC log.

While SKCC is meant for non-electronic keys (straight keys, bugs, sideswipers etc as noted above), FISTS is dedicated to Morse and all of the above + keyers (and maybe even keyboards? I don't know!) are allowed. Both organizations operate on the honor system for awards, and are more about making the contacts than papering the walls.

Hope you enjoy both!
