Took both the tests today and passed! What a relief. I also took the Extra just for familiarization and WOW I think I need to do a lot of studying.
I guess it's time to get serious about an antenna and a radio. Well I actually have an antenna that I will be installing soon. I'm leaning toward the Kenwood ts 950s. I am an old man so I don't have the luxury of time to buy a beginner unit and move up. I think the Kenwood should do well for me. I was also considering the Yeasu FT 950.

Well congratulations,  Grin  Shocked and welcome to the hobby.  On the radio, if you are going to buy new you might look at the Kenwood 590 also.  I guess it depends on what you want to spend.  Any way, congrats and welcome and when you get your call sign maybe you can get the moderators to change you screen name to your call.

Congratulations!  Welcome to a great hobby!

Times sure do change--when I took the Extra test (back in the late Pleistocene era), the written for Extra was downright easy, practically a walk in the park.  In those days, the Advanced written was the brutal one, especially for those of us whose math wasn't great.  :-)

Don't wait until you upgrade--start having fun NOW!  PSK31 is a great way to get your feet wet, and if you can face the rapid-fire pace, you can jump into HF on a contest weekend--you'll make a hundred contacts in no time!  Smiley   73 and GL!  --ken
