What are some hosting places that are cheap, and still offer decent service and good up time ? I know QTH.Com offers web hosting. What are some hosting places that people are using, besides Go Daddy and Host Gator ?

Check out JustHost.com.

Very inexpensive, very reliable, very few (if any) limitations (bandwidth, site size, etc).

These people http://www.cirtexhosting.com/ were an absolute disaster! They were cheap, and that's about it. Support was just about useless.

They look really good! I like it that they actually get you going by installing Wordpress for you! I was unable on Cirtex to get Wordpress installed, and their support sucked so bad I never was able to figure it out.

I had a very good experience working with Scott, KA9FOX, of QTH.com earlier this year when I transferred my hosting, mail, and domain from another provider to QTH.com.  Every communication was prompt and he did most all of the work making the transfer happen, including everything in my WordPress installation.  I feel much more comfortable working with an individual than with a faceless "help" phone bank.  I highly recommend QTH.com hosting.

Define "CHEAP"?

For most hams, this equates to "FREE" and with FREE, many times, you get EXACTLY what you pay for, nothing more and sometimes LESS! I have heard good things about Scott KA9FOX's QTH.COM services but I have never used them personally. I use GoDADDY.COM and while it isn't FREE, it isn't outside the standard cost for a simple website host either. Check out their low end website hosting services for a simple setup and use website.

I second that, Scott runs a top notch service, almost no downtime, (I monitor), instant service, and reasonable connectivity to the net.  So far, over the past few years I have had maybe one short down...  Short being defined as less than a few hours...  Cost is very inexpensive.  I too would recommend QTH.COM for any hosting needs.

If I mean FREE, I would have said FREE. And, I too have heard good things about KA9FOX Hosting Services. But, business is business, and I seek hosting for my business website www.saferoofcleaning.com. It is a Wordpress based site. Besides what some posters have submitted, I have found plenty of hosting for 2.50 a month with unlimited web site size, and bandwidth. Not that I will ever need that much, but it is nice to know it is there. Scott KA9FOX wants 4.95 a month, and limits both bandwidth and size. In all fairness to Scott, there is more he gives you then you will most likely ever use, in this lifetime.
Regardless, at 4.95 a month, his prices are double what I am seeing lately, in my shopping for web hosting. However, his personal service may be worth it, I don't know ?

Before I go with any web hosting company, you can bet I will try out their customer service. I screwed up once, big time, and went with a company called Cirtex Web Hosting, a BIG mistake!

I think Scott also gives you a link on his page, if you go with him, something to consider! His web page is quite highly ranked, and a link from that page will propel any website into better search results. Plus, he is one of us, a Ham!

A little known fact in web hosting is this. As a business, you must be careful WHERE you are hosted. Too much Porn or Hate Websites on a server can effect YOUR Website.
I do not know Scott KA9FOX, but I can't imagine that, as a Ham, he would ever knowingly Host any Hate websites. The amateurs creed says "The Ham Is Loyal", and hosting any Hate Websites would be a violation of the creed all us hams subscribe to!

Don't think I would have to ever worry about Porn on the servers of KA9FOX either.
Actually, a little Porn on a server will not get the other websites on the server penalized. But, if there is a LOT of Porn on a server. my SEO Guys tell me that Google can actually penalize every website on that server, Porn or not!~

Because I am a Ham, and KA9FOX is a Ham, I am leaning very strongly to using his services, even though this website of mine is a business website, and has nothing to do with Ham Radio. I plan to contact Scott. I have a few questions I need to ask him.

I just sent an email up to Scott, KA9FOX. (I did not see a phone number for him). I got the email address off his personal webpage.

Hey, look at this stuff http://www.qth.com/ka9fox/tower/12.shtml! Scott is a Ham with a Force 12 - 10 through 40 meter Yagi, on a small lot! I too am on a small lot here in Tampa Florida area, with a Hy Gain Explorer 14 and 40 meter add on kit on a 55ft Aluma Tower.

I sent the email to Scott KA9FOX, and he responded within 10 minutes!~ Maybe even sooner, but it took me 10 minutes to check my email. Scott was great to talk to on the phone, and turns out we have a Ham we both know, WOAD, in common!
I have decided to go with Scott for my business web hosting. Yes, I will pay a little more, but it is worth it, to me/
Scott is going to handle the switch over personally, and I feel comfortable with him.

LOL, us Hams are cheap I guess ? Any money I pay for hosting is a write off, because it is for my business. I guess it is just my "instinct" to shop prices.
I did contact a few of those lower priced hosting outfits. NONE would give me a phone number. The one replied in broken english by email, but they did reply.
Sorry Amigos, but no spica spanish here.

LOL, Scot and I wound up talking antennas and amplifiers. I mentioned I too used to own an Ameritron AL 1200 like he has. I mentioned I got the Ameritron from WOAD.
I traded my old Henry 2K Ultra to W0AD for the Ameritron AL 1200, a cool computer, and some cash.
Well, it turns out Scott and Paul, W0AD know each other, and is also a customer of Scotts! Pretty cool, huh ?

This hosting is for my business website, not my personal ham radio page. My very livelyhood depends on it. I feel comfortable with my decision to go with Scott, a fellow Ham, for my business website hosting. He also offers a money back guarantee, something my old host did not! I paid for 2 years of hosting, had problems they were unable to fix, or let alone even acknowledge. They have refused to refund me any money! They left me no choice but to move!
Scott is aware of the problems I had, and is looking into fixing them. During our conversation today, he did check some DNS stuff out for www.saferoofcleaning.com, and found some unusual stuff.

All I am waiting for is my C Panel user name and password (I never had it) and then Scott will personally do the change.

BTW, I read your review of the GAP Challenger. I used to own one when I lived just south of Tampa, in a very stuck up, deed restricted neighborhood. I had it really close to the house, and near a metal screen enclosure for the pool. It did not perform well, even when I ran the big Henry 2K Ultra into it. No one could even hear me on 75/80, 40 was not very good. Only 20 meters was OK, if I ran the amp, and forget 15 and 10. I did modify it to work on 17 meters by giving up 15, and on 17 is where I mostly stayed. Back then, (2000) there were few beams on 17 meters.

Some Hams in my radio club felt so sorry for me, that one GAVE me a Butternut Vertical. I put the Butternut in the exact same place as the Gap Challenger, on only a ground rod, no radials at all, none!

I was shocked at how much better the Butternut performed. For the very first time, I was actually able to check into my clubs 10 meter net, and people actually heard me!
yes, I did lose 17 meters on the Butternut, but it worked so well on 20, it made up for it.

Weird story, huh ?

Scott KA9FOX and I were talking about weird antenna stories. Like a vertical I have on a chain link fence with no radials (except the chain link fence) that plays like gangbusters!

I say "If it works, enjoy it"!

Set your TTL to about 5 minutes ASAP, don't wait if you are moving hosting sites...  It will help during the transit to Scott's hosting...

I graph my web sites up/down time, and I have a graph which goes back a year...  One very short outage...

Well ..... the idiot I used for hosting and to make the website will NOT give me my C Panel access! In fact, in the 3 months my site has been made, I have been unable to access it, in ANY way! I can not get into the admin of my site, because my site will seldom, if ever, load for me! All I usually get is a white screen! And IF I try to get into the site, it gives me a 402 error.
