How to connect a clamp type PL 259 to RG8/213

Hi everyone,

I have bought some clamp style PL 259 connectors similar to these ones ( http://www.minikits.com.au/components/connectors/rf-connectors/uhf/UP03 ).

I am not sure of the correct way to connect them.  I have had a couple of goes but before I solder them if I pull them lightly they just drop off the end of the cable.  A search of the web does not seem to provide instructions for these type of plugs.

I was hoping someone could point me to so instructions for these type of plugs.

I'm not familiar with clamp style PL-259's, but from the picture they resemble an N connector. At least on the outside. In the first link soldering the braid is recommended. Not sure I agree with that, but on a coax with a thin braid like Belden 913 or other foil / braid types it could give the clamp ring a little something extra to hang on to. A light tinning shouldn't hurt anything...

in the crimp on ones you have to have the correct connector for the coax, perhaps the clamp ons  are the same.
