Digital scanner

Not sure if this is the correct forum. I was going to purchase a new police scanner the radio shack digital scanner pro 106 . I found out the local police switched to a new type of digital mode called next edge or nxdn  is anyone else finding this out. Not much out on this type on the internet. I did find out that there is  somthing called a digital speech processor . The only thing people are using is using a computer interfaced with a scanner.. Again anyone have any more information on this I would appreciate it.       kc8ktn/chuck...

No current scanner will decode NexEdge out of the box.

But there are computer decode programs out there.
I've heard DSD 4 Windows will work, but have no experience with it.

Not much out on this type on the internet.

Hello are you saying I would have to run the scanner and a computer program hooked together. Like ham radio deluxe scenario.  Thanks for the help I have allready seen the radio referance article.. I have a laptop in the shack i use it with my icom 718 I run ham radio deluxe and also have a usb psk system setup.. Thanks for your time and help.   Chuck/kc8ktn.

Hi Chuck:
Yes, as I understand it. Audio from the scanner
is processed via computer sound card and software
so the signal is decoded.

As far as scanner control via computer and
software (what Ham Radio Deluxe does with your
HF rig) I have no idea and kinda doubt it.

I would post this question on RadioReference.com.
Those guys are awfully knowledgeable about scanners
of all kinds and the latest and best software. A while
back I had some problems with my Uniden BC 250D
and they really helped me out.

You sould purchase a Uniden BCD996XT.  Other than the fact I have two of them, you can control them w/ FreeScan, a D/L from the 'Net.  The user interface is easy to use.  It takes a while to get used to the way the newer digital P25 "channels" are setup.  I worked for a month.  Finally found the RadioReference site...
