I was disillusioned with 160 many years ago. It seemed then that if they did not know you or you were not part of a group that they would not talk to you especially on SSB.
I routinely call CQ on many bands. Out of 160-40, I was surprised that calling CQ on 160m was more successful than on 80. 40m is best, probably because of wide propagation and modest antenna requirements for a decent signal.
Not as many hams on 160 as on 40-80 but the attitude is good IMHO.
One issue is that one needs to call when hams listen.
