Hi,

I recently bought a Kenwood TM-D71A and monitor both 146.52 and 446 simplex. I've noticed brief bursts of white noise breaking the squelech on 446 with a fairly good signal strength. At first I thought it was a cross-band repeater with it's squelch occasionally opening up but now I'm thinking it's 9600bps packet possibly using a G3RUH modem.

Is anyone aware of packet activity on 446 simplex in the NYC area?

Tnx,

Mike

I can't help you specifically, but in the US, most 9600 baud use is in point to point "backbone" links in WANs.  You can try to decode some packets.  I suspect that it's BBS traffic between nodes.
