Alinco DR-605 PC programming help

Hi, I've been asked to program a bunch of alinco DR-605 radios for a local EOC. Problem being, I'm not doing it manually, i flat refuse. I have a dos program for doing that but when I use that and a serial cable that has worked with other alinco radios and icom radios in the past, it won't communicate with these radios. I'm using an old windows 98 laptop I use for a lot of my programming activities. Is there a newer version of software I can try for this? Can anyone tell me if there's something I need to do? I'm connecting through the external speaker jack as I should be so far as I know. Can anyone help on this one? Thanks. John
