I have just acquired an FT-201 and am seeking some advice.

All modes except AM work fine but on AM there is little or no treble so the bassiness makes it difficult to understand speech. There seems to be no way of adjusting this so is it a "feature" of this kit or should I be looking for a faulty component?

Many thanks

Are you referring to transmissions or receptions?

I believe that if you have not installed the optional bandwidth AM filter, that it is using the SSB bandwidth filter for AM. This will certainly cut everything beyond 1500Hz or so. I doubt that there are many FT-201's out there with AM filter.

Just reception at the moment. I need a few more items before I start transmitting.

Not sure where to check for an AM filter but I guess it is a standard transceiver..

"XF-90B", optionally installed on IF board as shown at http://foxtango.org/ft201/Yaesu-FT-201.htm
