Guys, I am one frustrated op.  I am using a Rigblaster Plus which I purchased at Dayton in 2005.  My rig is a Kenwood TS-2000 and I'm using a Toshiba Laptop. Since my computer does not have a serial port, I purchased the serial to USB cable from West Mountain Radio and downloaded the driver.  I believe the jumper are correctly set as well.  No matter what I iuse for input, audio out from the rig, the front mic on the computer or a mic plugged into the comnputer and set in front of the outbaord speaker I run, I get consistent intermittent lines on my waterfall display and it won't consistently read out.  I have tried playing with AF gain, RF gain you name it and I simpy can't get anything to paint tes=xt for more than a few letters.  Oh, and is doesn't matter which sofware I use either.  I have WinMix. DM680, and several others all of nwhoch don't work.  What the heck am I missing.  I used to be able to hold the mic up to the speaker and make PSK contacts before I started using this laptop!  Yout thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

If you set the waterfall to listen to the internal microphone and whistle, does the trace get intermittent?

Phil, I tried it with 4 different programs and it does fine for a few seconds then drops out.  Perhaps a soundcard setting or something internal.  I know this shouldn't be so darned hard.

This is a problem in the computer. Try a cheap USB sound card as a substitute.

Something like these would be suitable replacements...

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-3-5mm-Jack-Audio-Adapter/dp/B0058P0I2C/ref=pd_cp_e_1

One has RCA and all have 3.5mm mini plugs in/out. Any of these and dozens of even less expensive ones would replace the flaky sound card in the computer and provide a permanent solution.

Tell us about laptop, memory, OS and CPU

The laptop is a Toshiba L505 Satellite using the M330 Intel Processor at 2.13 GHz, 4 GB of memory, 64 bit system using Windows 7.  I am this close to ordering the USB soundcard as suggested by another ham on here.  I took the plugged in mic offline and whistled into the built in mic.  it works fine for a few seconds, then frops out.  Sometimes when I have a strong signal painting, it is seen then looks like a hole in the waterfall.  Almost like its overdriving but it isn't splattering it like a negative just leaves like a negative paint if the makes any sense..  I'm thinking it is either the soundcard or some setting that I'm not aware of either on the soundcard or something. When I was using my TS-440 (which had an AFSK out port) and my old desk top, things seemed simple.  I'd just like to work some PSK and RTTY.  I have fun DXing on SSB but since I;m now retired, I wanted to play with digital.  If I wanted this much frustration I should go back to work hehehe

Thsanks for your help

Any time. Don't be at all amazed that the internal sound card flaked out on your laptop. They are really made from the absolutely cheapest chips they can find. They have it there so they can say they have one. Quality is not one of the requirements.
