Ive just picked up a McMurdo miniature straight key, which I believe is the same as the BCE501, an old wartime field morse key. It hasnt arrived yet so I cant check this

Ive heard that the contact spacing is fixed at 3mm (more likely 1/8" for its date), can anyone confirm this?

As the thing is a moving contact, im sure the term 'fixed' here just means not adjustable by the user. They key is designed to be a sealed unit, so I suspect on the workbench it could be opened and the spacing adjusted, has anyone done so?

Cheers

Must stop buying morse keys - I also bought a Racal at the same time! Cheesy
