BTW Microsoft is going to phase out hotmail overtime and replace it with Outlook. They also plan to combine Outook with Skype (which they bought a few years ago) to make a total (text chat, Email and video chat)  messaging service.

Hotmail services have already been ended according to the news release from Microsoft a week or two ago.  The thing I find interesting is that the 'live' e-mail service is still running, and all that was supposed to be was an extension of hotmail.

Given the age of hotmail I suspect it while be around for awhile for existing users they did stop adding to it. Do not know what to say about live but its days were numbered when MS bought skype. Win8 was designed to support outlook and skype built in.

I don't think the "Live" email is running either. When I login to my live email address I get the new Outlook web service using my live.com email account.

OK.  I have Thunderbird set up to get my live e-mail, so I didn't see the change at the website yet.  But the live e-mail account I have is working as it always has--that's why I said nothing seems to have changed.

Hotmail still works through client software but they may be virtualizing it on Outlook.com.
