The IARU HF Contest is this weekend, from 1200Z Saturday to 1200Z Sunday. Everyone works everyone, both modes, QSOs with other countries count as more points, with other continents even more. The exchange is RS(T) and IARU zone - a map of IARU zones is here. Full rules here. While HF conditions in mid-July are rarely great, this is always a fun one. The various national ham and IARU organizations will have their headquarters stations on (like ARRL/W1AW) and they will give out the organization name instead of zone in their exchange - you get bonus points for working them. A list of the HQ stations is here. 73 John K3TN

Since this is an all band all mode event, that also means the "too many contests" crowd will be out in force as well!

Also note there will be a test run of about 30 stations preparing for next year's 60-some-station WRTC event. WRTC is an Olympics-style radiosporting event that happens every 4 years or so. Please see www.wrtc2014.org for details. For this year's practice click "2013 Station Test" in the left menu or directly: www.wrtc2014.org/competition/2013-station-test/Mike N2MG

Yes, this is always a great contest. Being it's both CW and SSB should make it a wild and crazy time on the bands this weekend. Have fun everyone!

Started the contest at 6:00am Hawaii time - 16Z. Had a few in Asia and Russia on 40M. Not much. At 18Z moved to 20M to see what was going on. Worked a few there and one or two on 15M.
At 19:20z after breakfast - checking it out again.. all noise.. I'm seeing the West Coast on Cluster and I can't even hear them... it's been brutal. I bet the late afternoon / night will be pretty good. We'll see.. nothing going on now.

Conditions much better now before sunset. What a difference. Daytime has been really rough for a few months it seems.

I have HN1HQ in my log from the IARU contest. I have JARL as the zone in N1MM Log so it should be Japan. I get nothing with QRZ. DXKeeper thinks it's Iraq..

My big thrill was working B5HQ on 20CW. Still need PRC confirmed on 20, and that is a new prefix as well. Other big thrill was taking a break to work K4N from EL84 on 6m for a new grid.

Nice going John on working B5HQ, sounds like you had a great time. It was a great contest especially to break the ham radio summertime blues. I had a couple of unusual surprises myself, worked Haiti and FO/K7ST.
