I've got a Diamond NR72BNMO Antenna. It's about 14 inches long. 1/4 wave antenna. I haven't installed it yet, but you may consider looking into that one.

Hood lip mount, short 2m/440 whip,out near the front of the hood, no SWR issues, and with a short whip, no distraction from long antenna whipping around in turbulent air, and no worries about parking garages with low clearance. The top of the antenna is lower than the roof bars on the vehicle. Most repeaters are on tall buildings or towers or mountaintops, you won't notice the difference from a roof mounted antenna, and its way better than a roof mounted whip that keeps getting broken off driving under low clearances.
