Just picked up a new-to-me Icom 7000 and have been playing around with it over the past couple days.  One issue i have found, which is probably an operator related issue, is that i cant monitor my transmitted signal with the monitor function.  I hear something through the headphones, but it sounds like RF that is just getting in the headphones.  I get good signal reports from contacts so my signal is getting out there.  I have gone through the manual and turned the monitor function on and increased the levels through the menu system.  Any thoughts?

You may be getting RF in the shack, getting into your headphones. How far is the antenna from the radio, and what kind of SWR are you experiencing. If you turn the RF power down to minimum, and transmit, can you hear the sidetone in the headphones clearly ? If you can, then RF is causing the problem.
