AE5QB,

Do you know how vulnerable you are with your callsign on the internet? I don't have that problem.  Grin

My experience in life is people who call others trolls or other names are usually that themselves.
I stated at the beginning I wouldn't use my sign.
People obviously found it interesting otherwise they wouldn't have posted. People have their own experiences I'm sure. I know why I am attacked - it is for my beliefs.  Good luck. You will never make my angry, spiteful, or name calling. I would become like you. That is your life and future with your beliefs and your guy. If the cat fits wear it.

Do you know how vulnerable you are using your callsign on-the-air? Especially mobile?

I made a mistake as a youngster mentioning I was heading out of town on a local 2-meter repeater, with the result of having to replace a kicked in front door when we got home. Yeah, I know, stupid in retrospect. Although I think someone was just trying to teach a lesson as nothing was stolen.

Now my callsign goes to a P.O. Box, not my home address. I think that's a better - albeit more costly - solution.

Proud of my callsign!

Jim,

We live in a completely different world than twenty years ago. For instance I don't want to be audited by the irs for things I say on the web. I don't want strangers to know when I'm leaving town, what equipment I have, or what I do for a living.

So if that bothers people too bad for them. If a site changes their rules I just won't post any longer.
No person you've never met is your friend. Peoples
faces are masks. They seldom reveal what is behind the mask except to their own families who can't run away. If I ran this site I would have everyone use a pseudonym for their own safety.

qrz.com adds you without asking anyway, so you're already "on the internet".

As an example, look up KV4VW that was granted two days ago.

Begins N8, correct?

Security through obscurity doesn't work.

Why do you guys allow yourselves to be lead around by the nose?  Sure, you want to help someone but isn't it obvious that this thread is BS?

Please...... go help someone who needs it.  SShhhhccchhh!

"You guys" are everyone that has tried to help the original poster....whoever he might be.  If you think he is/was "tamable" you're a wild-eyed dreamer!

I beg to differ.  As soon as he saw that his callsign was already out there on qrz.com, the sun came out.

[...] I would be very surprised if folks didn't come back to you just because they don't like sending 4's or V's. [...]

Hey -- I LOVE sending 4s and Vs when playing with my old Vibroplex bug.... Those dits are so much easier to send than the alternative, and the mechanical parts really flutter!

there was an old QST article, "Love Them Dits" by John Troster, W6ISQ that was hilarious

My call suffix is all dits.   Grin    Way back in the summer of '76 I went down to the FCC office in NYC.  I was an electrical engineering student at the time, figured I'd have no trouble with the written (general) and have a hard time with the code test (5WPM as I was going for the tech plus, back then just tech).  Turns out I barely passed the written, but did well on the code.  Though I doubt it, I wonder if the FCC test administrator though I'd be big on CW and selected my suffix for me....    Grin

Well, you could send your call phonetically in code...  Grin

Just heard 9A9A. Wondered why he wouldn't give the rest of his call.

I was seriously thinking about changing my call to W2ESE, which was available, lower weight than mine, and had a "shave and a haircut" rhythm. Until I learned that "shave and a haircut" means something obscene and nasty in Mexico...

Move to Russia? Go for it, just get in touch with the Russian Embassy in D.C. and tell them you have a list of all the Number stations in the U.S.(that you have fictitiously made up from call letters not listed in any FCC data base). You will probably get free transportation to Russia plus free room and board once you get there, after all it worked for Snowdon. Job? not to worry, you will eventually make out like a bandit with book/movie rights and residuals.

What Huh

Snowden went to Russia because we (the USA) blocked his going to his preferred destinations like Ecuador or Iceland in his search for asylum.  We began to put heavy pressure on Hong Kong so that Snowden was advised to leave and in his search for a country that would give asylum he became a hot potato that landed in Russia's lap, a place he originally meant to only be a stop-over.  Snowden purposely avoided taking critical information that would put US agents or true military secrets in danger because his goal was to expose what he found to be unConstitutional programs that jeopardized who & what America is.

If he head sought to gain monetarily from the secrets he would have downloaded other stuff and would be an extremely rich and unknown man living in Russia or China or some nicer place they would have sent him.

It is silly to criticize Snowden for being in Russia since that is where WE boxed him in.
