When I visit http://www.eham.net/ehamforum/smf/index.php?action=unread ,  I now get redirected to the login page, even though I am logged in.

In the past, clearing all eham.net cookies fixed this every time. Not this time. I've tried clearing all eham.net cookies several times, as well as logging out and back in.

So far I have not been able to reproduce this issue.

Are you still having it?

I sure am, George. I just clicked the bookmark (http://www.eham.net/ehamforum/smf/index.php?action=unread) from this page, and it immediately redirects to https://www.eham.net/user/login.

I'm using the latest version of Firefox under Windows 7.

UPDATES:

http://www.eham.net/ehamforum/smf/index.php?action=unreadreplies works fine.

Disabling NoScript and AdBlock in FireFox (version 26.0) did not help; http://www.eham.net/ehamforum/smf/index.php?action=unread still redirects to the login page.

And, the green bar at the top of login page that I'm redirected to shows that I am logged in and that my subscription expires 12/20/2014. I would be happy to post a screen capture.

I do not doubt that you are having this issue I just cant make it happen for me.  In looking at the logs I think you might have a cookie
conflict.  I know you said you deleted all the eham cookies - but could you try that again?

What is the URL of the login page you get directed to?

What is the URL that you use to login to the site?

Thanks

Ok, I tried that again. Still the same problem.

https://www.eham.net/user/login. (Actually, the browser history shows that I was first redirected to http://www.eham.net/user/login and then immediately to https://www.eham.net/user/login.)

This time, it was www.eham.net.

It's interesting that you asked this question, though, as the bug seemed to be related to where I logged in. I believe I logged in once on http://www.eham.net/ehamforum/smf/index.php?action=unread and IIRC, that may have triggered the problem I'm having.

I do know that this feature only works on one computer. SMF seems to store some unread posts in its user database, since I have always been able to move from this laptop in my living room to the computer in my shack. And as long as I access each forum from http://www.eham.net/ehamforum/smf/, I can browse the unread posts on either computer. That has worked nicely for years.

But the link that causes the "bug" seems to be able to be only used on one computer at a time. So, I have been only using it on this Windows laptop.

I appreciate your looking into this, George! That unread posts link is a wonderful feature that I only discovered in the last month or two. Let me know how else I can help.

UPDATE: I just manually marked all forums read from within each forum. Logged out, deleted all eham cookies, logged in at www.eham.net ... same problem.

UPDATE AGAIN: No bug using Internet Explorer. (But I HATE that browser!) I guess I could try this on another computer with Firefox. But I'm going to bed.

SOLVED!  Smiley

I opened Firefox History, right-clicked on the first eham.net entry there, and selected Forget About This Site. It took several minutes, but apparently it cleaned the browser cache and who-knows-what.

I then logged in at http://eham.net, and the unread posts feature worked fine!

The problem was at my end. Sorry to put you to all this trouble, George. Thanks so much for all your help.

I've been playing with this feature since my last post. Something is just not right with it.

The way it works for me is consistently unpredictable.  Here's some things I've learned:

 1. When I click that link (mentioned in above posts), sometimes it stays on that page, and other times I get redirected to http://www.eham.net/ehamforum/smf/index.php.

 2. And after I click the MARK ALL MESSAGES AS READ tab (on either page mentioned in #1 above), sometimes it does just that. Other times, it doesn't.

 3. If I log out and then log back in, usually that fixes this. But only temporarily.

I found out how to reproduce the one bug: if I am not logged in and I accidentally click the 'view unread posts' link on my browser's toolbar, that triggers the constant redirect to the login page. "Forget about this site" in history clears that error, as I mentioned above.

I have never had a problem with this feature on amfone.net (http://amfone.net/Amforum/index.php?action=unread), which uses the same forum software. And I haven't logged out in a very long time.

I've seen some issues with the appearance of the "secure" https URLs (and various subsequent site issues ) as well.

I entered a bug report for our programmers last month.

It's still broke, Mike.

I wish I could run a macro to log out, delete the eHam cookies in Firefox, log back in, and mark all posts read. That's what I have to do. I've had to do it at least a hundred times since you said this.
